Surfskis are your all-access pass to exciting adventures throughout New England
Surfskis open up a version of New England that few people ever experience. Long stretches of exposed coastline, tidal races, island chains, open crossings, and wind-driven runs all become accessible — not as stunts, but as deliberate, well-planned journeys.
The Adventure section of New England Surfski is a curated collection of meaningful open-water objectives throughout the region. These are not races and not routine training loops. They are paddles that require planning, judgment, and respect for the conditions — and that reward paddlers with a deeper connection to the water.
Adventures here are grouped into three broad types, each representing a different kind of challenge:
Circumnavigations
Self-contained journeys that loop entirely around an island, peninsula, or geographic feature. Circumnavigations reward pacing, navigation, and endurance, and often provide a uniquely intimate view of a place that can’t be appreciated from shore.
Crossings
Point-to-point routes that commit paddlers to exposed water for sustained periods of time. Crossings demand conservative decision-making, situational awareness, and confidence in changing conditions.
Downwind Runs
Wind-driven routes that transform rough water into opportunity. Downwind runs emphasize boat handling, timing, and weather literacy, and vary dramatically depending on wind strength, direction, and sea state.
On Readiness & Responsibility
The adventures documented here assume a high level of personal responsibility. New England waters are cold, dynamic, and unforgiving. Paddlers should be competent in self-rescue, navigation, and weather assessment, and should understand the risks associated with exposure, tides, shipping traffic, and rapidly changing conditions.
